Sapphire Energy Recovery sources waste-derived fuels and raw materials primarily for use by the cement industry, and carefully manages the introduction and use of such materials in cement kilns around the country.

A major part of our business is end-of-life tyre recovery, and we operate a nationwide collection and disposal system to support garages, retailers and tyre manufacturers across the UK.

We also manage the disposal of a range of other waste streams through the cement industry by sourcing and identifying materials suitable for the manufacture of cement either as an alternative fuel or raw material.

Using waste in this way enables complete recovery of the material by using its energy value or mineral properties, which delivers significant environmental benefits:

• Replaces finite fossil fuels and primary minerals.
• Diverts waste from landfill and gives alternative options where landfill is illegal.
• Reduces the generation of carbon dioxide emissions from the cement-making process.
• Destroys organic waste components and incorporates inorganic constituents into cement products, leaving no residual waste or ash.

Sapphire Energy Recovery supports the Duty of Care obligations of waste producers and can provide evidence of legal disposal of wastes according to the relevant legislation.

All of our operations and administrative processes are subject to regular external and internal audits, and we operate to ISO 9001 quality standards. All our processing centres in the UK are certified to ISO 14001, registered to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and regularly monitored by the Environment Agency. We also have OHSAS 18001 accreditation.
